Dear Sheila, or can I say "Shizzy",

I have read your details re Anfield Cemetery for a long time - I had no idea

that some day I would be able to write to you and thank you for cracking the

biggest wall I had in my family research! I have been so frustrated with not

being able to find where my paternal grandfather was buried it almost

started to hurt. I wish I was back in Liverpool so I could give you a big

hug!

Sheila, thanks you so much for your efforts. What really does surprise me is

that I have had the Latter Day Saints microfilm of Anfield Cemetery out and

I definitely did not see the notice of burial indicated in the burial

record. I will get hold of it again and double check as it would have saved

me a huge amount of frustration if I had seen it first time.

If there is some way I can repay the favour, please ask,

Now maybe (BIG maybe) I might have eventually found the death records for

the right Ann Jones and located her grave myself, but really it was like

looking for a needle in a haystack and if it wasn't for your website and

the wonderful work you are doing I would still be poring over Jones' in the

record office!! Not only are you helping people like me with their family

research, you are also preserving a chunk of history that would otherwise

be lost to time - you really deserve a lottery grant or similar in my book

of the relatives that I have been working on. I bolded Aunt Mays mom and
dad. Aunt Mays sister Doris Kennedy
husband is the one buried at Anfield.

Many thanks for this Sheila. Most kind of you to go to the trouble. I did clean it up to the best of my ability about five years ago and visited again three years ago. Problem with those small headstones is that they seem to sink or the grass grows, dies, grows again and slowly builds up a mat against the stone.

I suppose that back in 1935 there was very little money for other than a simple stone.

Hi Sheila - 

I'm so glad to find your Anfield site. Thank you for making all the 
information available. I will continue to look at it and watch it's 
progress. I am very interested in finding my great-great grandparents who I 
have been told are buried in Anfield. Here are the names:

Hannah Williams died 3 August 1871 age 71
William Williams died 1879 (husband of Hannah)

Would be interested in knowing any information on grave stones and any 
possible family members buried near to these graves. Only other name I am 
familiar with is Ann who I think may have been unmarried. These people lived 
in Everton and their son, Thomas, my great-grandfather lived in Nassau, 
Bahamas and I believe is buried there.

Thanks for the pictures and thanks once again for being so helpful. I still 
have to find my gran's grave Ethel louise Roberts (neeJones) She died when I 
was away at sea in 1957 also my mothers side Harper, Gannon and Boyd. My 
mother lived in Whittier St just round the corner from Toxteth cemetry and of 
course Allerton cemetry is a good bet. Happy 'dog walking' ! Hope we have 
some drier weather!

Thanks so much for your quick response. Your reply came on the same day that the postman brought a copy of my grandmothers death certificate. Until then we weren't even sure which surname we should be looking for.

I am in Australia, but my parents are both in Stockport.
Dear Sheila,

Thank you very much for the picture. Winafred was a family name for girls around that period. It ties in with the time of my Great GrandFather William Hogg. The problem I have is that I can't find William on the index for his birth so I don't know when he moved to Liverpool from Preston. I knwo his father but not his mother and consequently whether he had any siblings. I have no doubt that he had some but I need to visit a few places and do more research before I can establish that.

It will certainly help and once again thank you for your efforts

Hi Sheila

Thanks ever so much for that photo. Robert J Brewer was the son of Jane Brewer, and the Gaffikins were related through Robert's sister. I had no knowledge of Robert after the 1901 census.
Was that grave nearby? Or did you have it in your records anyway?
